Tim McLennan is a clinical Rehabilitation Engineer at the WA State Rehabilitation Service at Fiona Stanley Hospital, where he works within the CATS Team supporting WA Health staff and patients in the areas of Augmentative and Alternative Communication and Assistive Technology. His work focuses on alternative access to electronic devices, environmental control systems and technologies that enable greater independence for people with disability.
A 2016 Churchill Fellow, Tim researched international best practice in assistive technology services and innovation systems supporting people with disability. Drawing on this work, he led the development of a simulated smart-home demonstration environment at Fiona Stanley Hospital, allowing patients to trial assistive and smart-home technologies before returning home after illness or injury.
Tim brings lived experience to his work, having sustained a spinal cord injury at the age of 21 resulting in incomplete paraplegia. He also contributes to the sector through collaboration with Curtin University’s School of Engineering and as a board member of Technology for Ageing & Disability WA.
