The Dr Iain C. Medgett Churchill Fellowship to investigate vocal technique and care of the transgender singing voice in the applied voice studio

The transgender singing voice continues to be an under-researched field despite an increased emergence of transgender singers seeking formal voice training.

This fellowship would allow me to:

• Investigate best practice care for transgender singing voices
• Better understand how to create safe, gender-affirming spaces for transgender singers in applied voice studios
• Garner first-hand knowledge from those who have navigated the professional music industry after transitioning
• Understand the unique vocal health risks associated with transgender singing voices

Disseminating this knowledge would assist the Australian singing pedagogy industry to create safe learning environments for trans voices.
