We know 22% of food waste in Australia occurs in the production (on-farm) stage and two thirds of this comes from horticulture. Food waste constitutes 8-10% of global GHG emissions. Understanding our on-farm waste has just begun however, globally several methods of gathering and interpreting on-farm food waste data and interventions to reduce this waste exists. With Australia's goal to expand our horticulture industry to $20 billion by 2030 and our commitment to UN SDG 12.3: to halve food waste by 2030, work on this issue is vital. Impacts will include: reduced environmental impact, meeting export ESG demands, cementing social license, increased grower profits and getting more food to those in need
