The Stuart and Norma Leslie Churchill Fellowship to gain international costume tailoring skills to address a national skill shortage in the field featured image

This project directly responds to a severe skills and training shortage in costume tailoring in Australia, which is a result of the specific international nature of the training and an ageing workforce in this area. My project involves completing 8 weeks of intensive tailoring training across multiple locations in the United Kingdom. I will be trained in historical tailoring skills that are specific to costume tailoring. I aim to use and further these skills within the Australian costuming industry. With over 10 yrs of experience as a costume practitioner, I am uniquely positioned within the industry to pass on these skills in order to preserve a role essential to a vibrant Queensland arts industry.
