Family Domestic Violence (FDV) services in Western Australia are tailored to view FDV from a ‘western-centric’ perspective. I will undertake extensive, international consultation with key government and non-government stake holders in order to understand approaches and practices being used effectively with migrant, refugees and/or asylum seekers women who have experienced FDV. The premise for this project is to understand how organisations take into account the collective nature of a person’s culture and their construct around the concepts of honour and shame. The aim is to aid stakeholders to develop an approach that will take the person’s cultural construct into account without compromising their safety.
