To evaluate practical models to improve access to justice in isolated and disadvantaged communities featured image

A court cannot provide true access to justice by remaining within the four walls of a courthouse. Three themes arise in how to solve this; move the court (via mobile or circuit courts), send out service providers to bring the work back to courts (in 'justice bus' models) or look to technology (with E-Courts and online resolution software). Current Australian solutions are rushed, under resourced and expensive. The whole experience has a huge human toll for everyone involved and can often result in further trauma and distrust of the court. This project evaluated models to increase access to justice for isolated and disadvantaged communities in order to increase public confidence in justice and safety by observing practical models across India, The Netherlands, USA and Canada.
