The transfer of statutory child protection powers and functions (Delegated Authority) is a relatively new concept within Australia. It allows for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to reclaim self-determination over child protection matters that relate to their children. This project undertook an exploration of how international jurisdictions have embedded the transfer of statutory child protection powers and functions to First Nations organisations including the strengths and limitations. Critical lessons learned have been captured and a Call to Action has been presented in the report to advocate with Australian Governments transferring decision making powers and responsibilities to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander organisations.
