Selena Pertzel, a hair and makeup artist from Victoria has recently returned from her travel overseas to learn the latest techniques in wig and facial hair making, fitting and dressing. Already having worked on feature films Kong: Skull Island, Mortal Kombat and Elvis, Selena knew she had more to learn from around the world.
Selena’s Churchill Fellowship took her to the United Kingdom where she learned from industry leaders in the field of wig-making at the renowned Pinewood Studios, home to international blockbusters such as the James Bond and The Hobbit films. Selina studied at the London School of Wig-making; all aspects of wigs and facial hair – making, fitting and dressing.
“Currently, there is no curriculum and minimum knowledge relating to wig and facial hair making in Australia, particularly in hair, makeup and film schools.” said Selena.
Selina will share her report on techniques and equipment used by current industry leaders in wig-making, using her newfound knowledge and skillset to teach and inspire Australian practitioners through workshops and by teaching in hair, makeup and film schools locally.
“By learning skills and techniques off of the most prestigious and awarded wig makers that have worked on high profile productions in the UK, I hope to arouse interest of the next generation of hair and makeup artists.” said Selena.

Selena has over 18 years of experience as a hair and makeup artist in the film and television industry. She has worked both in Australia and internationally. Selena’s credits include feature films Kong: Skull Island, Mortal Kombat and Elvis.
